Record for Circumnavigating the Sleeping Giant
I decided on Sunday, April 14 (1994) that I would start a competition of sorts, and establish a time record for circling the Sleeping Giant.
Of course with 4 feet of snow still there were many complications. For instance, I had to lug snowshoes the whole 28 km and proceeded to clear the Kabeyun Trail for all those 7 foot 5 inch summer hikers! Needless to say I hit nearly every branch with those God foresaken snowshoes. But they helped going over the knees for 0.5 km and later on the bouldery section towards Lehtonen's Bay I was forced to crawl and slide for nearly 2 km as the angle and ups and downs proved treacherous...
Anyway, alarmed a bit by the many fresh Bear tracks, I still made the ~28 km journey, mainly on skis in a time of 6 hours and 16 min (parking lot to parking lot). So if you can beat that time tell me about it...
